Sifa Mapendo Alphonsine, an Amani Medical Team member, reminds us that it is never too late to give back and contribute a positive impact to our community. At 50 years old, Sifa works as the supervisor of nurses at the hospital in Idwji with 7 years of Amani experience under her belt.

Sifa chose the path of working in healthcare because she wants to save lives, and she does exactly that. She recalls the time a woman came to the hospital to give birth. It was 2 o’clock in the morning, and the patient suffered an immediate postpartum hemorrhagic shock. Sifa, the only possible donor at the time, was also fortunately equipped with the knowledge and the skills to proceed with a blood transfusion. The patient survived and, upon recovery, was able to go home healthy with her newborn child. This was the clarifying moment for Sifa, who then made it her duty to continue such life-saving and selfless acts of service with Amani.
